Mother to be Charged With Son's Murder
Posted 31 October 2008
In a press conference yesterday afternoon, Thursday, Oct. 30, Buchanan County Attorney Al Vander Hart announced that Michelle Kehoe, 35 of Coralville, will be formally charged with first-degree murder in the death of her two-year-old son, Seth.

She will also face charges of attempted murder and child endangerment causing injury in regards to Sean Kehoe, her seven-year-old son.

Kehoe and the boys had been reported missing by her husband, Eugene Kehoe, Sunday evening, Oct. 26. According to authorities, Michelle left the family home in Coralville at 11 a.m. Sunday for Sumner but never arrived at their destination.

A day later, investigators report Michelle appeared at the door of a rural Littleton residence, shortly before 8 a.m., seeking assistance.

Seth's body was recovered Monday, near the family van, found parked in a remote wooded area known as Line and Sinker Pond near Littleton. Both Michelle and Sean suffered from injuries and required hospitalization.

Vander Hart, during Thursday's press conference, said he would not reveal many details about the investigation as authorities wanted to be sure Kehoe has a fair trial.

Michelle Kehoe remains at University Hospitals in Iowa City undergoing treatment of her injuries. Authorities say she will not be formally arrested until her medical issues have been addressed.

Sean Kehoe, 7, has been released from the hospital and is with family.

Services for Seth Kehoe, 2, are scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, Saturday, Nov. 1, in Iowa City.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Buchanan County Attorney's Office, Iowa Attorney General's Office and state Division of Criminal Investigation worked jointly in the investigation of this case.
