NICC's
Bonnstetter Wins State
Award

Posted 07 November 2008
Judy
Bonnstetter, an NICC distance learning technician, won the Iowa
Communications Network (ICN) Scheduler of the Year award at the
organization's state conference
in Des Moines on Sept. 25.
Bonnstetter
was one of four individuals across Iowa who was nominated for the
award. She accepted the honor at the conference, themed, "In Toto 2008
- Food for Thoughts: Catering to Iowans."
Bonnstetter
has worked at NICC since 2002. In the past six years since NICC hired
Bonnstetter, distance learning options for college students have
expanded tremendously.
In
addition
to the ICN, the college's distance learning classes use computers, the
Internet, interactive discussion boards, video streams and webcasts to
offer quality college classes at a time and place that flex with
students' schedules. The college's ICN courses utilize
videoconferencing at a variety of classrooms throughout
Northeast Iowa. All distance learning courses are equivalent to
on-campus courses in credit hours, transferability to other
institutions, and fulfillment of program or degree requirements.
"As advanced as technology has become in education and
distance learning options, the 51 regional ICN classrooms still meet a
real need for rural students. These students desire face-to-face
courses, but live too far from campus to attend every day," said Jill
Ferrie, NICC director of distance learning. "Judy works hard to make
sure their course selection is as comprehensive as it is for our campus
and online students."
The State of Iowa ICN system covers a large area to meet a
variety of needs, in addition to education. As Iowa's fiber optic
network, ICN is an integral part of education, health, justice, and
welfare for Iowans, making it possible for Iowans to participate in a
way that is efficient and cost-effective for all. ICN is committed to
continued enhancement of distance learning and providing Iowans with
convenient equal access to education and government at over 740
classrooms around the state.
