Beware of Lottery Scams
Posted 18 November 2008
he Fayette County Sheriff's Office has recently
been notified of several lottery type scams. Sheriff Marty Fisher would
like to remind the public not to give out any bank account or credit
card information over the phone.
These people are claiming that the person they are calling has won a
lottery. In order for them to deliver the winning check - a cash some
needs to be collected from the winner to cover income tax and other
fees. In some cases they have even claimed they will send someone to
your residence to deliver the winnings and collect the cash payment.
"I would like to alert the public to this in hopes that people are not
taken advantage of. If you have doubts or think this is too good to be
true, then it probably is," states Sheriff Fisher.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your local law
enforcement.
