National
Transportation Week: Time to Evaluate Transportation Options
Posted 12 May 2009
Getting from where
you are to where you need to be influences where you choose to live or
work, where you shop, what you do for recreation, and how you socialize
with friends and family. During National Transportation Week, May
10-16, consider how your life would change if you were dependent on
using – or by choice restricted your travel to – public and private
transportation services other than your personal vehicle.
Through the ongoing Iowa Statewide Passenger Transportation Funding
Study, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is identifying the
range of mobility needs across the state for today and through 2020.
This study will explore beneficial service and capital program changes,
as well as associated costs. In addition, a broad range of funding
concepts/ideas will be developed to equitably address gaps between
current revenue and the level required to address identified needs.
In a recent series of six public input meetings, Iowa DOT officials
listened to Iowans’ concerns about passenger transportation in our
state. Iowans who could not attend one of the sessions can share their
opinions by completing the survey at http://www.iride21.com/. | | |
