NICC Approves $10.7 Million in New Jobs Projects

At the Northeast Iowa Community College Board of Trustees meeting, Ken Vande Berg, Vice President of Economic Development Services, asked the board to set a public hearing for the proposed issuance of $10,750,000 in Industrial New Jobs Training Certificates. NICC is recognized as a leader in the state for its economic development efforts. “Our staff actively works with new or expanding businesses so they are able to take advantage
of this funding,” stated Vande Berg. “Since 1985, we have been directly involved in the issuance of new jobs training certificates worth over $55 million that have directly led to the creation of over 12,000 new jobs in northeast Iowa.”

The trustees approved four final 260E Industrial New Jobs Training Agreements that will comprise part of that issuance.  Oelwein-based companies Ashley Industrial Molding, Inc., and Abraxis BioScience are being approved for an estimated issuance of $870,000 and $175,000 respectively. Ashley plans to add 125 new jobs to Oelwein’s workforce and Abraxis will add an additional
17 positions. Two additional final agreements were approved for Engineering Services and Products Company of Dyersville and International Business Machines, Inc., (IBM) of Dubuque. Engineering Services will add 50 new jobs for an estimated issuance of $370,000 and IBM will add 650 jobs by the end of this
year for an estimated issuance of $7,450,000.

Addendums were also approved for job training agreements with Kunkel, Bounds & Associates, Inc., Sedgwick Claims Management Services of Dubuque and Pattison Sand Company, LLC, of Fayette. Kunkel, Bounds will add eight jobs for an estimated issuance of $60,000 and Sedgwick will add 51 new jobs for an estimated issuance of $255,000. Likewise, the Fayette-based company plans to hire 49 additional employees over the next few months for an estimated issuance of $490,000.
