Man Attempts to Use Counterfeit Bills At Independence Norby's
Posted 14 January 2010
On Saturday, January 9 at 9:30 a.m. an Independence Patrol Officer was dispatched to Norby’s Farm Fleet, 1600 3rd Ave. S.E., Independence, Ia. (319.334.2872) on a report of the attempted passing of $20 bills.

A white / male subject / who appeared to by approx. 5’8” tall / brown & grey colored beard & bushy hair / stocky built / 35-45 years of age / wearing a stocking cap with the hair sticking out from under it / coverall with tape wrapped around it’s legs (who claimed he welds & gets burn holes in them) / came in to the store just prior to the officer’s arrival.  The suspect attempted to purchase a (1) stocking cap & (2) neck warmers.  He offered to pay with (2) $20 bills.  The clerk noticed that the bills had a “faded aqua marine color” to them.  She then had the manager look at the bills.  The manager noticed that the bills each had the same serial number “331A” printed on them.  The clerk tested both bills with a counterfeit marker and each mark showed a “brown color” which is a positive indication that the bills are counterfeit.

When the suspect was told the bills were counterfeit, he stated he got them from a ATM.  He left without purchasing the items, but took the bills with him.

The manager followed the man, who left in a white truck bearing Iowa plate #375WFA with the word “Prairie” n the side of the truck.  DOT files show that this truck is registered to:  PRAIRIE CONSTRUCTION CO INC / 321 W. 18TH ST. / P.O. BOX 626 / WATERLOO, IA. 50704 / on a 1999 / white / Chevrolet / C3500 truck.
